Day 2: Planning The Design (Isaak)

This day was largely planning how we were going to make our projects because we couldn't go to the wood shop due to a rain storm. For my project I figured out a method of how to make it as well as find a better way to design the sloping of the checker pattern, by increasing the height of the tallest piece it solved the problem of my shortest pieces being too short and thin. In order to get the checker pieces to stick together without having them warp over time was a difficult issue one that was solved by not gluing them together with wood glue but with epoxy this would act as a seal to prevent moisture from coming into it and warping the wood, also gluing the pieces to themselves instead of just a board below them will help them stay together. For the type of wood I am using I'm sticking with cherry and walnut. For us walnut is in surplus. I am looking forward to buying the wood tomorrow and to start milling it so I can cut it and actually start on making my project.

This is a sketch of my Project.
