Day 7: The Frame (Isaak)

 In the morning I finished making my frame pieces and realized something, I messed up. I cut off the corners of the wood so when I needed to find the center of it it became very difficult. I made this mistake yesterday and I should have had the foresight based on that to not do that however I didn't so I resulted to using my previous frame to line it up with the router bit. After that I took great care in cutting the pieces to 45 degrees. I did not want a repeat of yesterday. My heart pounding on each cut until it was done and the fame fit together without any of the pieces being too short even barely. I proceeded to glue the frame to the board I used wood glue this time and held it together with a band clamp. After that I waited for 3 hours until I could take the clamp off. I sanded relived that the frame actually fit this time.

What did you do today? Today in woodworking, we started off by learning the basics about wood and how it is processed, cut, and made. Then we started learning about some of the tools we were gonna use such as the router, table saw, and jointer. Then we started deciding what our project was going to be and I decided on making a small pet house. After that, we put each got a piece of wood and used all the machines that we learned about to cut it to specific measurements. Then at the end of the day, we kept brainstorming our projects then worked on our blogs. What did you learn? Day One - Just Getting Started (Aiden)

 Day 1 - Just Getting Started      Today was a day for planning and practicing for our upcoming woodworking projects, which involved us discussing the basics of woodworking. We started by discussing how our wood is turned from a tree into the wood we use, which was just a little background that was interesting to learn, and then we got to work practicing using the Jointer, a tool used for flattening the edges of wood that I first used during my Shadowboxes and Dioramas J-term last year, but had forgotten exactly how to use since.       To let us test, Mr. Grisbee gave us roughly cut pieces of wood and told us to cut them down to exactly 13.5in * 3in * 1/2in, a process that made use of the Jointer, as well as the Plainer and Table saw, which I personally thought was a good way to practice hands-on.       After we finished these, we got to work planning our projects for the rest of our A-term, and I decided that I was going to make two different projects, the first of which was going to

Day Ten: The End (Aiden)

The End (At the time of writing this, my lamp project isn't complete, so I'll be talking mainly about my bedside table project.) I put the last coat of finishing oil on my bedside table project today, and that marked the final step in completing it as complete. With it done, I think I honestly really like how it turned out, and I think the finishing oil really brought out some vibrant colors in the wood, making it look like it was done by a professional. I did realize shortly after finishing that I put the phone holder on the wrong side, as I usually place my phone close to me on my bedside table, but aside from that small error and the slight lean of the bedside table forward due to the base not being at a perfect 90 degree angle I think that it's pretty perfect and it turned out really close to the way I wanted.
